The Return of the Rangers

At long last, the New York Rangers drop their first puck of the abbreviated 2013 NHL season. When last we say the Rangers, they were a young, scrappy team playing deep into the conference championship round and looking like a group that would keep us cheering for a long, long time.

We’ll see what this team will bring when the season opens tonight, and at the home opener tomorrow night against the arch enemy New York Islanders.

Watch the U.S. Women’s Olympic Soccer Team at Rattle N Hum

The U.S. women’s soccer team will attempt to win its third straight Olympic gold medal and fourth in the five-tournament history of women’s Olympic soccer. They will play three group games and (hopefully) three knockout stage games, all of which will be shown at Rattle N Hum.

The U.S. returns with the largely the same roster it had in the 2011 World Cup, with just one new player (22-year-old striker Sydney Leroux) added to a roster that includes fan favorites Hope Solo, Abby Wambach, Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.

The U.S. is grouped with France, Colombia and North Korea, three teams it met in the World Cup. The Americans eased past Colombia and North Korea in the group stage, and scored two late goals to beat the French in the semi-final.

The team opens with its toughest group game, France, on Wednesday at noon EDT, knowing a win would put them in position to win the group. They play Colombia on Saturday at 11:50 a.m and North Korea on Monday at 12:15 p.m.

The Americans should have no problem advancing out of the group, but the knockout stage will provide challenges. World Cup champions Japan, host Great Britain and traditional powers Sweden and Brazil are all possible opponents in the quarterfinal.

The quarterfinals will be played on Friday, August 3rd, the semis will be played on Monday the 6th and the final will be played in Wembley Stadium on Thursday the 9th at 2:45 p.m.

Euro 2012: The Third Matches in the Group Stage

Tomorrow starts the 3rd round of matches in the Group Stage of Euro 2012. Sweden and Ireland have been eliminated, but the other 14 teams all have an opportunity to move on, though some may need a little help from their “friends.”

Most of the matches have been fairly close, with 5 ties and 7 one-goal wins out of 16 matches.

Thus, nearly every team in the competition can advance with a big win in their third match, and nearly every team can be sent packing with a big loss.

The third set of matches continues to Tuesday.

All of the Group Stage matches for Euro 2012 will be played at noon or 2:45 pm NYC time.

The Best Belmont Stakes Party in NYC 2012

Saturday is going to be an epic day at Rattle N Hum.

Starting at noon, we’ll be showing two Group Stage Matches in Euro 2012. Rattle N Hum is the best bar in NYC for Euro 2012 because it’s considered the best craft beer bar in NYC, and the best craft beer bar is the best place to watch anything. World class football watching pairs nicely with world class beer drinking.

Then, at 4:30, we’ll begin the best Belmont Stakes Party in NYC.

In addition to 40 lines of craft beer, 100 more in bottles, cask ales, and a full bar of top quality wine and liquor, we will be offering our “Mint Tulip” for just $5, in a martini glass. We’ll also be holding a “best dressed woman” contest, with the prize a gift voucher of brunch for two, with two drinks per person.

Watch the Belmont Stakes at Rattle N Hum Bar

The Belmont Stakes will be run for the 144th time on June 9.

I’ll Have Another, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness will be trying to become just the 12th horse to sweep the Triple Crown.

The feat has not been accomplished in 34 years, and only three times since 1948. Since 1978, 11 horses have had a shot at the Triple Crown but were tripped up at Belmont; they include Funny Cide, Smarty Jones and Big Brown in the past 9 years.

New Yorkers and NYC tourists are avidly searching for  the best Belmont Stakes parties in NYC. As the best craft beer bar in NYC, Rattle N Hum is the beer drinker’s best bar in NYC to watch the Belmont Stakes.

The Rangers ran their record in Game 7 at MSG to 5-0 with another thrilling won over the Washington Capitols on Saturday night.

As one of the best craft bars near in NYC, we’re thrilled to see the NY Rangers not only playing in the Eastern Conference finals, but also playing the maximum number of games in each series! But we will say that we wouldn’t mind a bit if they didn’t insist on this perilous one-goal cushions in so many games. A 3-0 win to start the series against the NJ Devils in Game One on Monday night would give our nerves a night off.
